By 1931 the Connemara Pony Breeders Society in Ireland had established two breeding lines, both of which can be traced back to Vol 1 of the societies Stud Books. The first was to become the most prolific male blood line descending from CANNON BALL ( 1 ) through REBEL ( 7 ) and is called the BLUE LINE. The second stallion that can be traced back to Vol 1 was CONNEMARA BOY ( 9 ) and it decended through his son HEATHER BELL ( 15 ) and down to two stallions MACDARA ( 91 ) and DUN AENGUS ( 120 ). Macdara was the real old stamp of the dun pony with all the strength and stamina of the line, coming from the best of native stock with no outside blood. He was a dark dun with a thick black mane and tail, an attractive pony head and large kindly eyes. Many of his progeny were dun or bay, they were tough hardy ponies and had wonderful temperaments. Many of his stallion sons were exported all over the world to USA, Denmark, Sweden, France, Holland and England to become the start of Connemara lines abroad. ASHFIELD FESTY ( 859 ), sire of our stallion DARK STRANGER (942 ) is descended from Macdara. The stallion Dun Aengus brought some of the thoroughbred blood into the line from Winter on his dams side and went on to produce such famous ponies as ABBEYLEIX OWEN ( 496 ) and CLOONISLE CASHEL ( 980 ). This line is called theRED LINE Two more stallions at this time were registered in the Stud Book, one was called BLACK PADDY ( 8 ) whose son NOBLE STAR ( 17 ) left eleven registered sons, but despite this, a male line was not established through the succeeding generations. However this line features in the back breeding of many good ponies, and was called theYELLOW LINE The other stallion on the Stud Book was JOHN QUIRKE ( 13 ) who was the sire of SILVER PEARL ( 18 ) . Again this line did not continue past the next generation and was called thePINK LINE
